Hello! My name is Chelsea Brown, and I am the current Media Coordinator for the BPW House! I am from Bradenton, Florida, and I am a freshman at Florida State University. My hobbies include yoga, kayaking, and spending quality time with the people I love. My current major is exploratory with a focus on math, education, and economics. I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was in elementary school. I decided to become an exploratory major to try out other fields that I could be interested in and maybe want to pursue in the future, but I have a very soft spot in my heart for education. For me, school represented the consistency that my home life lacked. My fondest memories were at school. I still remember my 4th-grade teacher, Mrs. Flynn, and the interactive activities that made every student feel special. The highlight of my day was when she read us books based on important moments in history. Towards the end of that school year, Mrs. Flynn announced that she would be retiring, I was devastated. It brought tears to my eyes to know that no one else would experience her teaching. It was then that I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. I hope that one day I will be a great teacher like Mrs. Flynn. My aspiration in life is to travel around the world and teach children in low-income countries that may not have the best education systems. I am so thankful for all the teachers and adults who never stopped believing in me and have helped me get to where I am today, so I want to spread that love to children around the world. I want to inspire children to be whatever they want to be in life despite their circumstances like many people have inspired me. Being a first-generation student and being away from my family for the first time made me feel anxious about starting college, but SSF gave me a second family that I can always count on for a laugh or a much-needed hug.
